Albrecht was half way through his MFA program (ceramics) at the University of Iowa when he was deployed to Iraq (03-04 medic/security work). His work explores the collision of war myth and reality through the physical and mental aesthetics of combat, national narratives, and the aftermath. Albrecht has taught art in colleges, art schools, non-profits, and workshops across the country. He lives and works in Montana--utilizes ceramics, drawing, and papermaking--and has work in numerous permanent collections to include: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Smithsonian, The National Archives, and The Library of Congress.

    Originally from the Northwest with a B.A. from Stanford University, I have painted, published illuminated books, and lived and traveled extensively in Asia. Now working primarily in ceramics, I draw images from the deep well of past experience, always starting from a strong “mind’s eye” vision. My ceramic pieces are as much about their inside as they are about their sculpted outside. I continue to create “Metaphysical Pots” that feature water both inside and outside, becoming metaphorically both the Water of Life and the Infinite Ocean, symbolizing the continuous process between creation and transcendence.
