Black Chandelier Bead Illusion Party Dress with Swirling Trumpet Skirt– M, 1950s

About the Item

Made for a party, this glamorous dance dress combines the late 50s and early 60s so perfectly that we would bet it was worn on New Year’s Eve at the cusp of the new decade. Not quite sleeveless, it incorporates the 50s’ penchant for barely-covered shoulders and ornate handwork with the shorter hemlines and lettuce edges favored in the 60s. Thanks to its dangling, multi-faceted beads and sequins it sparkles like a diamond no matter the time of year. Cap sleeve dance dress with heavily-beaded illusion bodice including dangling faceted beads around neckline, at bust and at center waist; gathered waist falls to a floating lettuce edge skirt of sheer silk chiffon. Weighted rear metal zipper closure with hook and loop at upper- and mid-back. Bodice lined in ivory acetate; skirt lined with free-hanging silk crêpe underskirt. fabric: silk chiffon, silk crêpe, acetate noteworthy: dry clean only repairs: reattached beads where loose condition: very good with one inconspicuous pull in chiffon and a 2-3 pinprick-sized holes at skirt hem measurements: neckline circumference: 20 ½” shoulders: 17 ¾” from outer shoulder edge to edge bust: 40” waist: 28” hips: free bodice length: 8” from underarm, 15” from shoulder skirt length: 25” total length: 33” from underarm, 40” from shoulder sweep: 395” (skirt), 200” (free-hanging underskirt) label: no label present size: no size tag present; comparable to modern size medium

An elusive long sleeved cocktail dress for the lady who wishes to cover her arms but accentuate her legs. Long sleeve shift dress with wide scooped neckline and black sequin criss-cross leaf trim at front and rear bodice. Lightly padded shoulders and 2” rear vent. Rear nylon zipper closure with top hook and eye; fully lined in black silk. fabric: pebbled wool crêpe, silk georgette, sequins noteworthy: dry clean only alterations: none condition: excellent measurements: neckline opening: 10” across shoulders: 15 ½” sleeve: 23” from shoulder (including 1” shoulder pad), 16” from underarm sleeve circumference: 13 ½” at upper arm, 8” at wrist bust: 38” waist: 36” hips: 41” length: 37 ½” from shoulder (including 1” shoulder pad); 28 ½” from underarm sweep: 38” hem: 2” label: Carolina Herrera Studio...
