17th Century French Roasting Jack
About the Item
Early 17th century French weight-driven spit jack made of wrought iron, wood and lead. It was used for cooking in a kitchen fireplace. The forged frame is held together with wedges, a very old technique. The mechanism is still functional, though it misses a rope, a weight and handle.
