Livio Seguso, Heavy Murano Glass Bowl, Rainbow Design and Glass Orb, 80s Signed
About the Item
Exceptional historical piece. It has the rainbow patter. A sequence of canes that Livio loved to place in sculptures where the play with the lens effect of the other clear massiccio parts.
On this piece it is clearly visible the absolute control of the light refraction. I tried to represent it with several photos.
The cluster of parallel colors is interrupted by a dripped organic line of black. It recalls the use of black in Joan Miro abstract paintings.
There is a spherical piece added where the flap folds. That orb has a bubble of glass inside that enhance the play with light, an intuition that he will magnify in his sculptures. As I always said, Livio is the only artist who creates by subtracting the light.
Signed Seguso AV below the sphere, where he usually signed his piece.
A personal note: I have had a Lino Tagliapietra rainbow disc, and the signature was placed right in the center of the disc and a very long signature. (Tagliapietra Angelin Effetre International 1983 Murano for Oggetti Miami) as everyone wanted to be mentioned!. Livio would have never ruin the clear part of a sculpture for showing the signature through his magical lenses.
It's incredible, taking the photos I realised that the signature is placed in the only place of the bowl that it's not picked up in refraction from any angle of view.

This sequence was used in several pieces, bowls to be highlighted with lens effect of the piece. The fish body acts like a magnifying lens and the colors are moving when looking at the piece. - Seguso for Bisazza White Scavo Corroso Murano Glass Vase 1993 SignedBy Livio Seguso, Bisazza VetroLocated in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, FlorenceUnique large scavo vase. Here Bisazza used a theme that was popular at the end of the 1980s, the native American art. In particular the Navaho pottery. Scavo is made using a scavo technique of adding minerals over the hot shaped glass and a corroso finish that is to add acid with sawdust, to stay in place. The combination is of a great antique texture. Vase Jug with two handles. This collection belongs to the Livio Seguso production made under Bisazza ownership for a small period of the early 1990s. Livio continued his artist career with the freedom and the free state of mind that came from not owning a company. Similar path of Luciano Vistosi. - Seguso for Bisazza Pair Mustard Murano Pulegoso Vase Gold Rim, 1993 SignedBy Seguso Vetri d'Arte, Seguso, Bisazza Vetro, Livio Seguso, Seguso & CenadeseLocated in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, FlorenceSet of two splendid Pulegoso vase. One round and the other tall. The round is lighter and the tall darker tone of mustard. Perfectly executed Pulegoso finish. This is Murano Crucible Pulegoso. The mouth has a rim with external gold leaf difficult to notice because it does not contrast with the background. Just magnificent and rare set. At first I believed, because of the round shape, that Bisazza was dovetailing Carlo Scarpa original round shape from the 1930s. When I was able to see the pieces and see the year, then all came clear. In the second part of the 1980s there was a re-discover in Interior design of the Native American arts. In particular, the Navaho products. As Carlo Scarpa took his inspiration from Japanese shapes, here Bisazza translated in glass the Navaho pottery art. Here the reason for a hearty color, these orange toned Puligoso is part of the Seguso tradition. Colors that are not in high fashion. This collection belongs to the Livio Seguso production made under Bisazza ownership for a small period of the early 1990s. Livio continued his artist career with the freedom and the free state of mind that came from not owning a company. Similar path of Luciano Vistosi.
