About the Item
Unique footed ostrich egg box by J. Antony Redmile, accented with silver plate trim work, topped with an egg-shaped malachite finial and set atop a black lacquered wood base. Unsigned, but no doubt by Redmile. Often misspelled as Anthony Redmile, the other pieces from this estate were signed Antony Redmile. Small dent to lower trim work, shown in photos, some loss of silverplate, malachite reglued, hairline crack in egg.
Antony Redmile’s design style has been defined as eccentric, opulent, and over-the-top. Born in England in 1940, the Post-War and Contemporary designer is best known for his extravagant furniture design, fine art objects, and interior design work. His objets d’art include ostrich eggs adorned in malachite and silver, mirrors framed with horns, and animal forms trimmed with agate and seashells.
