About the Item
A beautiful 19th century Aesthetic style Charpentier gilt bronze and rouge marble French mantel clock of outstanding quality, circa 1880. The marble case profusely decorated with bronze mounts highlighted in gilt, surmounted by a winged cherub with bow and arrows standing on a double flaming oil lamp, the face with gilt Roman numerals and delicate filigree hands surmounted by a natives head with an embossed panel below decorated with two winged cherubs. Paw feet with gilt highlights.
The two train 8 day movement sounding the hours and half hours on a bell, stamped Charpentier Ft De Bronze 214 a Paris for the renowned Paris foundry.
The renowned bronzier Charpentier was located at 8, rue Charlot in Paris.
This clock is in excellent condition. The marble is perfect with no chips or cracks. The movement has been serviced by our qualified horologist. The bronze and gilding is in excellent condition.
