pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. marble and Ormolu busts
About the Item
An elegant and high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Vert de Patricia marble and Ormolu busts of a Pan and Syrinx, signed Jean Baptiste Lebroc. Each impressive bust is raised on a Vert de Patricia marble pedestal with mottled edges and supported by a square Ormolu base plate. This stunning pair of busts tells the story of Pan and Syrinx. Pan is dressed in an animal pelt draped over his shoulder, while Syrinx is adorned with flowing garments with her flowing hair gently held back.
In Greek mythology, Syrinx was a nymph who liked to hunt using a bow and arrow. Pan, the god of shepherds and flocks, came across her one day and fell in love with her. He pursued her ardently, but Syrinx escaped him.
