Important and Impressive Pair of 19th Century Bronze Sculptures
About the Item
Important pair of sculptures depicting Achello and Helena (mythological famous figures) in bronze, made with the lost-wax technique, dating from the 19th century (second half of the 1800s but made in the Empire style).
Standing on a quadrangular column base in golden robes, they hold magnificent cornucopias (a symbol of prosperity and wealth). The heads are adorned with laurel wreaths.
Of great aesthetic impact given both by the impressiveness of the figures and the measures
(245 centimeters high) as well as the bases that support and complement the bodies, richly decorated with floral festoons and anthropomorphic friezes that stylistically recall the eclectic style typical of the second half of the 19th century.
Prominent in the decorations are large acanthus leaves, feet and lion masks.
This large pair of sculptures combines in itself the Empire style, architecture and interior decoration.
Condition: excellent state of preservation
Measures: base (with lion feet) cm 70 x cm 60 - Height cm 245

The two mythological figures:
Acheloos (Ancient Greek: ??e????, Achel?os) is a character in Greek mythology, a river-god son of the titan Ocean and the titanid Thetis
He was the father of Hippodamantus and Orestes had by Perimedes, daughter of Aeolus. He is also credited with fathering the sirens sometimes with Sterope and sometimes with Melpomene
Geographically, Acheloos corresponds to today's Aspropotamus, the second longest of Greece's rivers. She is the most important of the Greek aquatic deities
Helen of Troy (also known as Helen of Sparta) is a figure from Greek mythology who has risen in the European imagination as an icon of the eternal feminine. According to some versions of the myth, Helen's mother Leda was the wife of Tyndaros, king of Sparta. Leda gave birth to four children, two of whom, Pollux and Helen, are said to have been sons of Zeus, who had conjoined Leda in the form of a swan, while the other two born, Castor and Clytemnestra, were conceived by Tyndarus.
Myth also relates that she was the daughter of Oceanus or Aphrodite.
The more suggestive version of her birth, on the other hand, tells that she came into the world by emerging from an egg, the fruit of the union between the goddess Nemesis and Zeus, who chased her around almost the entire globe to obtain her, in the form of various animals.
