Porcelain Figurine Gold Green by Contemporary Japanese Master Artist

About the Item

Unique porcelain figurine of Prince Lanling, hero-warrior of 6th century, China. This intricately detailed figurine is the creation of widely respected master porcelain artist of the Kutani region of Japan. Faithfully recreating the flowing folds of the warrior’s garb, this work features the bold five traditional colors of Japan’s Kutani ware accentuated by an ample application of gold. It is said that Prince Lanling, known for his peerlessly handsome looks, went into battle wearing a ferocious mask and dragon-topped helmet lest his soldiers awestruck by his beauty lay down their arms. The warrior’s greatest victory was passed down to posterity in a dance entitled “Prince Lanling in Battle.” Long-lost in China, the dance lives on in Japan in the repertoire of Japan’s ancient imperial court music (gagaku). This exquisite porcelain figurine comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 14 in W 7 in D 5 in
