Bronze Vase Gustav Gurschner circa 1912 Patinated Austrian Jugendstil
About the Item
Austrian Jugendstil Patinated Bronze Vase designed by Gustav Gurschner manufactured by K.K. Kunst-Erzgiesserei circa 1912 Signed
Gustav Gurschner is among the most famous Austrian sculptors of the 20th century. His remarkable talent and his extensive artistic education allowed him to create some of the best works of the Wiener Jugendstil, among them the king’s obelisk in Veszprém in 1908, the Emperor’s monument of Hohenelbe around 1916 and the portrait of King Edward the VII. of England.
This typical Gurschner vase, which was, like most of his bronze designs, cast by the k.k. Kunstgießerei Wien, bears a Celtic-type of relief pattern. These bronzes with Celtic decorations achieve top prices on the market and are in high demand among collectors.
Signed with “GURSCHNER” on the side.

- Gustav Gurschner Bronze Female Figure CandelabrumBy Gustave GurschnerLocated in New York, NYA bronze Art Nouveau figural candelabrum by Gustav Gurschner. A young woman with twin buns, dressed in a long flowing skirt, with her breasts exposed, holds a seed capsule in each arm, into which a candle can be inserted. Gurschner displayed his work through the Viennese Secession Group gaining him much acclaim. His depiction of bare breasted women largely survives any stricture in that they have a quiet dignity and poetic charm that never stoops to vulgarization. The woman holds in each arm a lotus flower seed capsule. The size of the capsules relative to her body makes her seem a flower fairy or spirit. A candle would be placed on each capsule, illuminating the dinner table with spectacular charm.
