Masuo Ojima Large Scale Sculptural Post-Modern Ceramic Vase, circa 1990s
About the Item
This is a very unique oversized ceramic vase created by Masuo Ojima in the Post-modern style. The vase, really a sculptural object, features a stepped design and a two-tone brown coloration. A beautiful piece and a wonderful addition to a Ojima or Post-modern ceramics collection.
The vase measures 17.5" high, 11" wide and 6" deep. The opening or mouth of the vase measures 9.75" high, 6.75" wide, 2" deep. Signed Ojima on the bottom.
Masuo Ojima was born in Shizuoka, Japan in 1949. His father was a cabinet maker and his grandfather was a traditional Japanese roof tile producer, so Ojima grew up with many memories of wood and clay around him. As a child he was always interested in music and art and in college he happened to come across a ceramic class and became intrigued watching students work in clay, He immediately signed up for a class the following quarter and during the first class meeting he was overwhelmed by the feeling and excitement of creating objects out of his own hands with just an IDEA and playful mind. After graduating, some years later he opened his own studio and began creating work and has been doing so for the past 40 years.
