The stellato finish is made by rolling canes of various color over a small blob of incandescent glass. The design is attained by using the glass scissors at the end and making flat discs with a star design. All these are then heated on a flat surface, in the old time was a stone so this technique still carries that name, lavorazione a piera. It's heated so that it becomes an unique mosaic rectangular piece. It's then rolled with a glass disc that has the exact perimeter of the rectangular side. The stellato finish is achieved by rolling canes of various colors over a small blob of heated glass. Using glass scissors, flat discs with a star design are created. These discs are then heated on a flat surface, traditionally a stone (referred to as lavorazione a piera). The process continues by rolling the heated pieces with a glass disc matching the rectangular side's perimeter, known internationally as the Roll-up technique. Closing the remaining sides into a cylinder, adjusting the size, and shaping the final form through the punty technique and hand-opening are the challenging steps.
