Large White Ceramic Bowl on Tripod Feet, Wave Rim with Hand Drawn Interior
About the Item
Made completely by hand, this Large Ceramic Fruit Bowl with Creamy White Glaze is unique to the core from its unusual texture and hand carved drawing to the gorgeous glaze. The white stoneware clay was worked using several techniques, slab, coiling, pinching, and scraping, with hand drawing over the surface. Three hand-formed feet both elevate and add character to the bowl. The Creamy White Glaze shows the off white clay body in places as well as a faint underglaze painted into the carved areas, creating depth, complexity and warmth. The curving rim adds to the movement and grace of the wide bowl. Some would call it a "gift from the kiln gods" or "kiln magic" that enhanced the curve of the rim. A beautiful statement piece for the home. It has a sculptural presence when you leave it empty or fill it with fruit on the table. The red apples really pop against on the difficult-to-photograph white piece in the photos included. A truly one of a kind piece is always impressive in your home. More art than serveware.
Signed with artist's signature chop underneath.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics
Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.

- Wood-Fired Hand Built Bowl with Shino GlazeBy Helena Starcevic CeramicsLocated in New York, NYThis small hand built ceramic bowl is truly unique, from the rustic hand formed shape to the surface treatment. It was wood-fired in an "Anagama" kiln in Upstate New York, a traditional Japanese kiln. These kilns are made of special bricks built on a slowly slanting hillside with several firing chambers. Wood must be added to the fire over several days and nights. Heat and smoke from the ash swirls through the kiln, landing almost randomly on the work. Depending on its location in the kiln and any glaze that was applied, the effects can vary widely. This piece has a traditional Shino Glaze...Category
