Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Sugar Spoon Oyster Shell - George Fox 1867

About the Item

We are delighted to offer this beautifully sculptural solid silver Victorian sugar spoon made in London in 1867 with marks for George Fox. As found on some of Fox's finest wares, this spoon presents a wonderfully creative and ornate design in a small form factor. The bowl of the spoon is in the form of an oyster shell and presents a wonderful three-dimensional and fluid design, reminiscent of Rococo style/revival. The piercings have been carefully thought out and made as perforations where the natural bumps would lie on real oysters. The gilded bowl not only creates a lovely contrast to the overall silver colour but also adds a layer of protection from the silver tarnishing. The stem/handle of the spoon also is intricately embellished with chased and engraved motifs and figural forms. A wonderful collectible and also practical piece of modestly sized yet impressively ornate silverware. This spoon would most certainly grace a sifter collection or as an addition to your dining table for an opulent setting and dining experience. A set of English hallmarks are present on the reverse side of the spoon's handle. *Please note: all images with other items are for display purposes only, this listing is for the item mentioned in the title.
