Vintage Hand Painted African Barbershop Sign Original Hairdresser Advertising

About the Item

MID-CENTURY ADVERTISING Depicting ten different numbered looks for different haircuts to choose from at the barbershop. Completely hand-painted in a wonderful folk art style with a monochrome palette on a blue background. Script in French underneath reads ‘Beaudelaire est le seul coiffeur en remon dans source du quartier ne vous derangez pas renez le comme votre client regulier’ Originating from the Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast). Looking at the haircuts I would date this to somewhere in the 1930s-1950s period. The sign is in good vintage condition, there is some wear present and old repairs commensurate with age/use but this adds to the overall aesthetic and is part of its history. Overall measurements 107cm wide x 51cm high x 3cm deep.
