Rare Large Poul Henningsen Louvre Pendant by Louis Poulsen, 1962

About the Item

The monumental Louvre pendant was originally designed by Poul Henningsen in 1957 for the Adventist church at Skodsborg Hydro Denmark upon request by the architect Charles Gjerrild who requested Henningsen to design an economic yet decorative pendant. We have two identical lamps in stock, price is per item. Both lamps are newly wired and come with new fabric covered wire (of distinct better quality) from the original manufacturer Louis Poulsen and a new original Louis Poulsen canopy. The funnel-shaped canopy is an important part of the design and is generally missing on vintage examples. Please also note that this design is hanging from its original reinforced Louis Poulsen wire and not from a chain that ruins the total appearance. Poul Henningsen's geometrical, spherical design is based on the principle of illuminating all surfaces at the same angle. This ensures uniform light around the fixture, illuminating both walls and ceiling. Matte painted undersurfaces and glossy top surfaces result in an attractive reflection of the diffused light, creating uniform light distribution around the fixture.
