1962 A Clockwork Orange

About the Item

A smartly bound, first edition copy of Anthony Burgess' celebrated novel, his jeu d'espirit, 'A Clockwork Orange'. With a signed letter from the author loosely inserted. Bound in a full crushed morocco binding in fine condition. Loosely inserted is a typed letter, signed by Burgess stating 'Dear Miss Coud, Thank you very much for your kind letter of November 12th, which I have just received. It's pleasant to know that one is appreciated. I have great pleasure in acceding to your request and enclose your bookplate duly signed. Again my thanks. With every good wish, yours sincerely, Anthony Burgess'. A first edition, first issue of this canonical novel. A novel known for its use of 'Nadsat' slang, and many time a contentious read, having been censored in some schools and libraries in the United States. Hailed as an dystopian, sci-fi, satirical, black comedy; this novel explores many genres. The teenage protagonist Alex narrates his violent exploits and experiences. Time Magazine regarded this work as on the list of 100 best English-language novels written since 1923. Burgess' novel was later adapted into a dystopian crime film by Stanley Kubrick. A lovely, very scarce example of this important literary novel. In a full crushed morocco binding. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Overall: Fine
