Luis Barragan's Gardens of El Pedregal
About the Item
Beginning in 1945 on the lava fields south of Mexico City, his 1,250-acre Gardens of El Pedregal were interspersed with dwellings and plazas, fountains and ponds, cacti and pepper trees. El Pedregal was Barragan's most important project, and many have hailed the residences and gardens there as a watershed moment in Mexican architecture. This book investigates El Pedregal's program and form, as well as its portrayal in architect-commissioned photography and advertisements, as well as its significance in modern discourses on cultural identity, design and location, and suburbanization. Luis Barragan's Gardens of El Pedregal, like our widely praised Revolution of Form, provides an in-depth analysis of this now mostly destroyed project through original papers, drawings, color and black-and-white photography, and critical studies of the design process.

- Italian Living Design: Three Decades of InteriorsBy Giuseppe RaimondiLocated in Tivoli, NYItalian Living Design: Three Decades of Interiors by Giuseppe Raimondi. Interiors photographed by Carla De Benedetti. Originally published in Italian under the title Abitare Italia by Gruppo Editoriale Fabbri. First published in the UK in 1990 by Tauris Parke Books. Late twentieth-century design and Italy are almost synonymous - Milan has become the design capital of Europe and Italian styles have been hugely influential. This book examines Italian designs for the home during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, concentrating on the stunning interiors which they have created. Each decade is introduced with an outline of the trends in industrial design, fashion, cinema, and television, placing them in the context of Italian politics and society, and of manufacturing and marketing developments. Thus clear connections are made between Italian culture as a whole and designs for living, which are extensively illustrated by the book's beautiful photographs. The fine design projects of Franco Albini, Vittorio Gregotti, Gae Aulenti and Ettore Sottsass are among the many which are highlighted and assessed. Furniture, lighting, domestic appliances and kitchen and bathroom units...Category

- Isamu Noguchi: Playscapes, Museo TamayoBy Isamu NoguchiLocated in Tivoli, NYUnopened catalog from the 2016, Museo Tamayo exhibit Noguchi’s Playscapes. An exhibition that focused on the artist’s vision of playgrounds and the public space. The show revisits some of Isamu Noguchi’s key ideas on how to discuss play, recreation, and education, and thus provoke a reconsideration of these categories within the sense of community that exists in our times. Embracing the possibility of closing the gap between art and functionality, Noguchi fiercely defended the idea that sculpture is an aesthetic and cultural tool capable of smoothing our passage between individuality and society. He took a favorable view of the democratization of art and the public space, inspiring him to create a number of playgrounds and play structures...Category
