Paul Morin Antique Pre-Confederation Canadian Sterling Silver Snuff Box

About the Item

This antique sterling silver snuff box was made by the noted Canadian silversmith Paul Morin from Quebec City of Lower Canada, and dates to circa 1795-1805 in a period Georgian style. This very early Canadian snuff box is naively decorated in a simple scroll and dot pattern which borders the top and four sides. The lid is engraved with the name "G. Peltier" which is surrounded by an engraved stylized wreath pattern. This sterling snuff box also features recessed hinges which allows the top to sit flush with the back when closed which adds to the simplicity of its style. The inside of the top is clearly hallmarked "PM" for Paul Morin who's work is exhibited in several museums in both Ontario and Quebec.
