Antique Art Deco ''Heron'' Bookends by Maurice Frecourt 1930 France Art Nouveau
About the Item
Very beautiful and rare pair of spelter bookends featuring herons made by the artist Maurice Frécourt (1890-1961). Executed in the middle of the art deco period around 1930. These two pieces are signed by the artist. The haughty bearing of these herons and their meticulously chiseled realization are representative of the work of Mr. Maurice Frécourt. They are represented at rest with their beak tucked into their feathers. The typical art deco line of these herons blends perfectly with these stylized cut ''Portor Marble'' bases. This pair of bookends will delight lovers of this inimitable style that is Art Deco.
Maurice Frécourt (1890-1961) who acquired fame and prestige from his participation in the Salon des artistes in 1920. Known for translating the imperatives of the Art Deco style into his vision of the animal world, his creations have become classics of stylized animal representation.
