Antique Kurd Rug with a Tekke Pattern
About the Item
Kurds were settled in the early 17th century in Khorassan and they adopted certain Turkmen design elements, as here shown in this antique piece with ten offset rows of Tekke or Yomud guls on a red ground. The guls are quartered in ecru and buff-camel. The single substantial border shows a reversing, scrolling S chain on ivory. Good condition. Moderate weave on wool. An interesting example of cultural appropriation.
