About the Item

Birch armchair in the style of Olavi Hänninen, 1950/1960s. Birch frame with brass details. Reupholstered with quality fabric. Good vintage condition, minor patina on the frame consistent with age and use. Olavi Tapio Hänninen was a Finnish interior architect and designer. Hänninen was a versatile designer, whose work included complete interiors for public spaces, furniture, trains and trams. Hänninen started his career at Stockmann's drawing office, where Werner West, the head of the office, invited several talented students from the Central School of Art and Design to work on furniture and interior design in the 1940s and 1950s. He also worked as chief designer for the furniture company Mikko Nupponen from 1957 to 1961.
