Greta Grossman Rare Velvet Lounge Chair for Barker Brothers, 1940s

About the Item

This utterly rare lounge chair was designed by Greta Grossman for the Barker Brothers in the 1940s in seriously limited numbers. In fact, this is the first example of this chair to ever hit the modern day market. The chair has a large, extra wide, bulbous scale with wonderful contours and is incredibly solidly built and heavy. The form remind us of some early designs by Vladimir Kagan, though this chair predates Kagan's. The chair has been totally restored. It is reupholstered in a stunning and delicate Italian striated velvet in varying shades of muted teals. Over time, the velvet will gain a beautiful patina, and the chair will continue to gain more and more character. Other characteristics include a button tufted back and dramatic, angular legs. This piece literally looks amazing with anything, and will add an eye-catching element to basically any interior aesthetic. Overall excellent restored condition with some very very light wear to the velvet. This investment worthy piece of design history is ready to be placed in a high end interior.
