- Alfred Christensen Three-Seater Sofa for Slagelse Møbelfabrik, Denmark 1940sBy Alfred ChristensenLocated in Utrecht, NLDanish Modern focused more on the aesthetics of modern design whilst employing the exquisite technique and material familiarity of highly skilled craftsmen known as cabinetmakers. Alfred Christensen’s present sofa in this style is a rare and exquisite example of this. This sofa has the characteristic ‘open armrest’ design that showcases the high level craftsmanship and the beautiful walnut structure as well. Clean and pure lines define this model that are coupled with expert craftsmanship and delicate research into proportions, materials and the requirements of the human body, adapting design to modern-day needs. Adopting the trend of abandoning ornamentation to benefit the form, Christensen maintained the beauty and warmth inherent to traditional Danish cabinetmaking. In consequence, this three-seater sofa has an elegant but still warm look thanks to its rounded edges and open execution. The only form of ornamentation - apart from the bent armrests - is the button tufting on the back. The light colour of the textural upholstery in combination with the dark walnut legs create an aesthetic that is perfect to bring a modern touch to any space. While Danish designers, including Alfred Christensen, had many principles, above all, all designers...Category

- Leif Hansen "Model 62" Sofa for Kronen Møbelfabrikken, Denmark, 1960sBy Leif Hansen, KronenLocated in Utrecht, NLLeif Hansen’s Model 62 sofa is commonly referred to as the “Geisha” and was designed in 1959. This model is a strikingly elegant example of Danish modernism’s streamlined, luxurious aesthetic appeal to contemporary eyes. This three-seater sofa is made of two types of exotic woods and dressed in a premium light fabric. Its character is created by three main elements: the visually sectioned, fully upholstered body, the wooden accents on the arms, and the distinctively shaped legs. It says a lot when a model is representative not only of a designer, but also of a manufactory. So is the case with this Geisha sofa...Category
