Unusual Collectors Piece, Cerused Oak & Yew Wood, of "The Floating World"
About the Item
Perhaps lost to antiquity is “The Floating World”. Ancient Persia, China and Egypt, all supported the idea of intoxicating tranquility and relaxation through the boundless beauty of replicating the natural world and stylizing it. The “Hydrotus Console”, is literally a stream of water. The direction of flow is up to the beholder as each end of the Console is finished with a separate detail, neither the beginning of the flow nor the end. Just below the surface are water lilies ready to emerge upon the surface with their fragrant presence. Yew wood is the exotic floral motif with the body made of cerused white oak. One of the four Yew wood lotus flowers has a crack that we advise should not be corrected.

- Blackened Bronze & Blue/Black Lacquered "Behepoda" Art Piece Cocktail TableBy Dana NicholsonLocated in New York, NYThe table was in part influenced by Armand Albert Rateau and Eileen Gray. Their influence is evident in this complex piece of many art processes. Sketched while listening to Bjork’s song “Bachelorette”, (which has absolutely nothing to do with the show or dating), the table is dark and pays homage to the cephalopods of the deep and the corals near the surface, while octopus’ suckers or coral polyps break the surface. Comprised of custom cast and blacken bronze of great weight supporting an ultra-thin and hollow surface of a moonlit blue...Category

- Bronze Sculpture Table Top Book "Eyas" Lectern or Book Stand, Batman MemorabiliaBy Dana NicholsonLocated in New York, NYInspired by the clever fox and the fascinating bat, the cast bronze lectern sculpture is one of three such designs by designer/artist Dana Nicholson. Sculpturally it stands on its own but it also elegantly supports art books or small drawings and paintings. It is one of a kind. The wings fold out for larger works. Treated with a rich tobacco brown patina and buffed with wax for an authentic, and historical bronze finish. Silver leaf has been applied to the raised portion of the body plate to accentuate the Celtic like design pattern. A perfect understory for that rare collector batman comic...Category

JEAN-CHARLES MOREUX (1889-1956) French architect and designer Jean-Charles Moreux was born in 1889 at the Chateau de Joncy in Saone-et-Loire. He studied at l’Ecole de Beaux-Arts in Paris (1914-22) where he spent the period during World War I working on the preservation of works of art. While attending l’Ecole he became friends with the architect Jean Lurcat and his brothers, Andre and Paul Vera. In 1924 he exhibited his first pieces of furniture at the Salon d’Automne. He had a preference for poetic living spaces and felt that people deserved better than Corbusier’s “machines for living in”.
