Jolanta Johnsson, experienced Polish artist, graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, PhD of fine arts, university teacher. She currently lives in Sweden. This is how she writes about this drawing:
'In Arms Angel' is a thoughtful and moving piece of art that explores the theme of security and comfort. The drawing, rendered in fine pen and ink, captures the moment when a guardian angel enfolds his beloved in his arms like angel wings for protection. Where is this angel? You can't see the angel wings. But you can see the outstretched arms. They are so widely spread that they do not fit into the drawing format. I have a rectangle of paper at my disposal. In this format, I want to show a situation which does not fit in the space given to me. That is why I use cropping. I cut off the arms, and let the viewer imagine for themselves how they end. In what gesture did they stop? Are the hands spread out with the arms? Or do they bend towards the figure of the woman? As if they were enclosing her in a safe circle? Or are they perhaps tilted backwards? This is for the viewer to decide for themselves. The woman folds her arms over her breasts and hugs her hips. As if she wants to feel her body, to affirm her presence in this safe space. This is a drawing about a sense of security. He provides it for her. He is bigger and stronger, she is smaller and more delicate. This is how a man differs from a woman. When he extends his care to her, he becomes an angel for her, and she can feel like in arms angel. Now, is the time of being secure. The drawing is a piece of art for wall which can assure you that you are in the care of an angel. Or perhaps of a loved one? Is it a love at first sight?

Jolanta Johnsson
Jolanta Johnsson is a Polish painter, who was born in 1955. She studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the years 1984–89, in the graphic studios of professor Halina Chrostowska and professor Rafal Strent and the painting studio of professor Jerzy Tchorzewski. She gained a Ph.D. in visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in 2012. Currently, she runs a graphic arts and design workshop at the European Faculty of Arts at the Vistula Academy of Finance and Business. Her works have been exhibited at numerous exhibitions, including in the United States, Sweden, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Greece.
