Hudson River School inspired landscape in oil pastel of a countryside sunset "Spring Thaw" by Judy Reynolds 24 x 36 inches, 30 x 43 inches framed Signed, lower left This landscape image by Judy Reynolds is a prime example of the artist's ability to capture transience in a still image. She portrays a Hudson Valley vista in a stage between winter and spring, when the snow has yet to totally melt despite the palpable strength of sunlight. The light itself reinforces the temporality of this pastel drawing. Reynolds realizes a sunset at its zenith; it bursts with orange and yellow light, but will ultimately wane to the purple twilight that encroaches from atop the picture plane. A statement from the artist: Primarily self-taught, I’ve created landscapes and still-life paintings in either oil or pastel medium for over 30 years. As a native of the Hudson Valley, most of my work is centered upon the Hudson River and surrounding mountains, fields, and marshes, but I’m also inspired by the dreamy marshlands in Maine. My favorite seasons to capture on canvas are late fall and early spring filled with sunsets, storm endings and foggy marshes, rich with the changing colors of the seasons.
