About the Item
Antonio Puri's "Tantra" sculptural painting is one of 100 intimately-scaled minimalist round mandala circles built from tiny seed beads adhered to canvas in a range of red hues, creating deep texture. They are from the "Tantra" series, a meditative, spiritual group of works that draw on the artist's Buddhist practices he learned as a child growing up near Buddhist monks in India. A selection of Puri's "Tantra" paintings were exhibited in the exhibition, "Geometric Objective" at Massey Klein Gallery in New York City, and in "Tantric Explosion" in Bogota, Colombia, where the artist currently lives and works. Each is titled on the back. There are 24 paintings available, and they work well clustered in groupings. Please contact me if you would like to see more than are listed. Shipping can be combined for multiple purchases.
"I am interested in comparing connections between my eastern roots and my western experiences. I embrace the possibility that we can exist in a world free from labels." - Antonio Puri
Puri was born in Chandigarh, Punjab, India and raised in the Himalayas around Buddhist monks before studying at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, Coe College, and the University of Iowa.
