About the Item

"Shot in the Dark" was painted by American artist Brand Robertson in 2024. Elevate your space with the timeless sophistication of this large vertical monochrome textured abstract painting, featuring a subtle horizon. Immerse yourself in the rich depth of layers and textures, expertly woven together to create a captivating visual experience. Perfect for adding a touch of refined elegance to any room, this artwork serves as a statement piece that transcends trends. This masterpiece carries with it a gift of craftsmanship and artistic integrity. Embrace the understated beauty and subtle complexity of this monochrome abstraction, and invite a sense of elegance into your home or office space. Born and raised in the coastal Southeast, Brad Robertson paints with a distinctive style that invites the mind to wander across layers of color and texture as the eye might wander along the horizon, looking out across the water and into the depths of a Gulf Coast sunset. Robertson aims to evoke the eternal, looking for innovative ways to combine color and texture to create multi-layered shorelines, endless horizons and seeming portals of bold color. A direct expression of the landscape he calls home, he views every piece as a part of him. Brad says: "My work starts with unanswered questions. I want my paintings to give the impression of looking out into the distance but looking further than what’s in front of you. I have spent more than a decade working to find innovative ways to combine color and texture to capture a sense of endlessness and the eternal. My aim is always to express a feeling more than a physical object. My art is the one thing that allows me to express myself. But there’s still an element of mystery to it. It begins as an expression of my own life and my own experience but it’s not until people look at my paintings and are able to define them in their own terms that I feel like my work has accomplished its purpose."

Mid Century Textural Color-Field Abstract in Royal Blue-Purple by Peter Witwer A striking mid-century textural color-field abstract in a bold color palette of royal blue-purple by San Francisco artist Peter Witwer (American, 1928-1968). This highly textured mixed media piece, c.1960's, uses a monochromatic palette that is divided into two areas of varying textural depths. The lower part of the canvas verges on sculptural, as the textured surface becomes almost three-dimensional and haunting forms emerge from the abstract purple-blue plane. Unsigned. From a collection of the artist's works. Displayed in a painted wood slate frame. Frame has been painted by the artist and is considered part of the artwork. Linen size: 26"H x 22"W. Framed size: 27"H x 23"W x 1.2"D Unsigned, but was acquired with a collection of the artist's work. Provenance: Without a will and a family that had little interest in his art, nearly all of his possessions and close to 100 paintings were turned over to SF’s Conservators Office. His friend, Albert Richard Lasker, purchased all of Peter’s possessions (including the art) and has taken care of them until this day, always sensing there was something remarkable about the collection. Wanting Peter’s work to finally be seen, Richard came to Lost Art Salon with Peter’s story after reading about the new gallery in a July, 2005 issue of the SF Chronicle. Born George Peter...
