Casper Brindle
A disciple of the Light and Space movement and linked with California Finish Fetish minimalism, Los Angeles–based contemporary painter and sculptor Casper Brindle is known for his abstract paintings and sculptures which explore the shared sensory relationship between color and light.
Brindle was born in 1968 in Toronto, Canada. His family moved to Los Angeles in the early 1970s, and there he grew up immersed in Southern California’s surf culture. In the late 1980s, Brindle worked for renowned Light and Space artist Eric Orr, who greatly influenced and inspired his artistic development.
Surf culture, as well as an integration of processes and materials that are specific to the environs of Southern California, are among the defining attributes of the Finish Fetish movement, a term that, helpful or not, has been applied to a range of artists that includes Ed Ruscha, Judy Chicago, Billy Al Bengston, Brindle and others. As an avid surfer, Brindle has often used his experiences on the water to study the interplay between color and light. This relationship often serves as the focus of his paintings.
To achieve the rich gradients and overall mood that characterize his atmospheric works, Brindle uses commercial car paint which he airbrushes onto his canvases and finishes with resin to create depth and enveloping luminous forms. It has been said that Brindle’s art evokes an emotive language similar to that of painters Mark Rothko and Jules Olitski.
Brindle’s paintings and abstract sculptures have been shown extensively throughout the United States and internationally. His works are included in private collections and are held in the collections of prestigious institutions such as the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation in Los Angeles and the Morningside University Collection in Sioux City, Iowa.

- Moon (Graphic Abstract Painting in Red, Dark Teal & Yellow)By Jenny KempLocated in Hudson, NYGraphic abstract painting on paper in in complementary hues of red-orange, dark teal and yellow "Duo" by Jenny Kemp, painted in 2020 acrylic on linen over panel 14 x 11 inches Signed, verso Jenny Kemp’s abstract paintings are inspired by the artist’s desire to represent unseen phenomenon. With intricate and calculated line-work, the artist builds parallel layers against opaque backgrounds, while shifts in color and shape call attention to organic forms that give reference to the human body or atomic structures. Precise lines in light green arc over a layer of opaque moss green before colliding with forms of bright red-orange. A serene layer of dark teal complements these contrasting colliding forms, allowing a visual reprieve. The gouache painting on paper is complimented with a light wood frame, protected by non-glare glass. Wire is installed on the back for seamless hanging. About the artist: Jenny Kemp received a BS in Art from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and an MFA in Painting from the University at Albany. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the country, most recently at Gold/Scopophilia* in Montclair, NJ and the Mandeville Gallery at Union College in Schenectady, NY. She has been featured in publications such as 100 Painters of Tomorrow published by Thames & Hudson, New American Paintings, The Huffington Post, Seattle’s City Arts, New York Times, and The New England Review.
