Each painting measures 35 x 35 cm (13.7 × 13.7 in).
Each artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The abstract paintings by James Lumsden delve into the concepts of depth, colour, and light. He applies dozens of thin layers of gel gloss and acrylic paint to the canvas as part of his creative process. Using specialized tools, this mixture is worked to hide or highlight traces and marks. The artist successfully creates the appearance of depth and light in the painting layer by layer, immersing the spectator into an enigmatic and alluring universe. The darker pieces have a gloss finish, the lighter ones a matt finish.
Vibrant, translucent colours are combined and contrasted to produce subtle, striking combinations. This pictorial technique, which deftly blends control and chance, turns the raw material into an emotionally charged, poetic work of art.

James Lumsden’s abstract paintings seem to emanate an inner light and give the illusion of movement. His creative process involves superimposing dozens of thin layers of acrylic paint onto the canvas. Layer by layer, the artist succeeds in creating an illusion of depth and light within the painting, immersing the viewer in a mysterious and seductive universe. Translucent, vibrant colours are juxtaposed and blended to create delicate yet bold and contrasting combinations. The material support is thus transformed into a poetic work of art full of emotion. “I aim to make paintings which are luminous, seductive, sensual, and atmospheric. I am fascinated in how the basic materials innate to the medium can be turned into something poetic; an object filled with light, feeling, and emotion. The struggle lies in attempting to reach that stage.”
