Scott Pattinson
Denouement No 43 - large, bright, colourful, gestural, abstract, oil on canvas

2016

About the Item

This gestural work has a strong graphic quality, with sparse calligraphic black mark making. However, the exuberance in the piece comes from the punctuations of lemon yellow, purple, hot pink, lilac and tangerine. (b.1974, Toronto, ON) Pattinson studied architecture and urban design at Oxford University and the University of Toronto. Both disciplines inform his dynamic, structural abstract painting. His sensibility in space and mastery of colour influences our thinking and challenges aesthetic. Since 2005, Pattinson has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in galleries across Canada, including a 2014 retrospective at Gallery Stratford. Framed dimensions are 51 x 51 inches.

A scaffold of dark violet gives structure to painterly hot orange and teal bands in this confident abstract canvas by David Sorensen. Born in Vancouver in 1937, Sorensen studied at UBC and the Vancouver School of Art under Arthur...
