About the Item
Everything about "Egrets Among Lotuses" is timeless and delicate, particularly the fine paper, soft colors, and detailed brushstrokes. The painting is signed Kyokata and dates to the Taisho Period, but style of painting is reminiscent of the 17th century Rinpa School, a prominent school of Japanese painting. The term byobu means “wind wall” and as the name suggests, painted folding screens were originally used in Japanese homes to block drafts of air.
Wood, washi paper, rice glue, silk brocade, watercolor pigments.
