About the Item
The fifth emperor of Rome, Nero was the last in the Julio-Claudian dynasty line of emperors following his suicide. Nero was popular with the lower-class Roman citizens during his time and his reign is commonly associated with unrestricted tyranny, extravagance, religious persecution and debauchery. Surdo depicts Nero with his signature cleft chin yet give the handsome emperor an icy blue complexion contrasted with a fiery orange background. The painting is framed in a simple black float frame, measuring 16.5h x 13.5w inches.

Chicago-based fine art painter Bruno A. Surdo creates provocative works centered around the human condition. Classically trained in drawing and oil painting in the tradition of Renaissance masters, Surdo displays a strong command of the human form and explores the depths of humanity through his dynamic compositions of people and places. With a focus on figurative realism and portraiture, he communicates a personal commentary on the world around him through the universal language of visual art.
