Gail Chase-Bien
INTO THE VOID / figurative oil on linen stunner - 5 x 7 feet

1993

About the Item

Romanesque figurative oil painting 'Into The Void' by American realist artist Gail Chase Bien, depicts ribbon dancers or semi-clothed angelic Baroque figures in a thought-provoking work of art. The painting glows with a primary palette of monochromatic ivory to grey, with secondary tones of flesh like blush and mauve. A highly sophisticated and contemplative painting that is reminiscent of the Greek artworks of antiquity, interpreted here modern and contemporary. Timeless, 'Into The Void' beautifully bridges abstraction with realism at an impressive scale: 60 x 84 inches (5 x 7 feet). The large-scale work has an uplifting, heavenly draw, relating to what one may also experience while looking at Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, or slow-moving bodies in modern dance. A sublime work by the artist who creates figurative, water and landscape paintings as a signifier for the human spirit. Gail Chase Bien's paintings glisten and glow due to her skill honed over decades. The artist paints with many thin transparent layers of oil color on linen canvas, over an extended period of time — from months and sometimes even years. ‘Into The Void’ is a slow painting, both in its making and in the enjoyment of it. Ideally hangs unframed, as the edges of the canvas are as beautiful as its surface. A timeless work of art that depicts purposely ambiguous classic human figures.
