About the Item
"Casting", painted by the Spanish artist Goyo Domínguez in 1995, is a romantic, colorful picture that smoothly joins the figurative and abstract worlds.
"Casting" was painted with acrylics on a 48 x 122 cm. wood panel which was previously treated by the artist to give it texture before starting to apply color. The painting framed measurements are: Height 73 cm, Width 147 cm, Depth 7cm.
Goyo shows three young women, represented in an almost realistic way, with special emphasis on faces and hands; while, the background, with great chromatic richness, is treated abstractly with splashes, scratches and blots.
The composition is direct and simple, the female figures occupy most of the space and look straight ahead, the corners of the picture tend to feature graphic details.
Goyo plays with forms and colors, organizing them to represent, in a simple way, harmony, beauty and serenity. But he also shows another unknown reality represented by these three masks, covering half of the beautiful faces, giving an image of the human beings´ duality.
"Casting" is a synthesis of the most creatives elements that Goyo normally uses at the end of the 20th century to portray his own style in his paintings: textures, shapes and colors, medieval garb, the figures, the glances, the geometric, the masks...
In 2002, Ediciones Sammer published a monograph about Goyo, the first of a collection entitled "Great Contemporary Artist" which has 240 pages as well as reproductions from most of his work from its beginning until publication. "Casting" appears in pages 6-7.
That same year, The Spanish Philatelic Postal and Telegraphic Service issued a beautiful series of eight self-adhesive stamp depicting reproductions of eight works by Goyo Domínguez which have "music" as a common theme , as well as a stamp to commemorate Christmas

Goyo Dominguez
Goyo Dominguez, a Spanish-born painter, is a romantic realist who paints figuratively with a unique sense of vision, beauty and imagination. His compositions, depicted with great technical skill and style, are compelling and serene, often with enchanting subject matters. Dominguez spent his formative years studying for the priesthood, which later was to have a profound effect on his work. He gave up his vocation to devote himself entirely to painting and studied Fine Arts at Madrid’s Complutense University. The demanding self-disciplines of his ecclesiastical upbringing and training reveal themselves in his natural intellectual ability to assimilate the history and culture of his homeland and to portray these roots in an ordered harmony of form and color His fascination with works of the 16th and 17th centuries inspires his favorite themes, still life, the human body and landscape. The intriguing result is a contemporary fusion of Renaissance Europe and the Classical World, often combined with elements of the abstract, transcending the classical past and the present day.
