Artist Comments
A woman in black walks down a narrow street in Marrakesh, Morocco. "The city is known for its red and ochre walls," states artist Hadley Northrop. "The sun shines at the end of the street, showing the changing colors of the sandstone and emphasizing the figure's silhouette." Hadley had not been to Morocco herself, but the source image from a friend reminded her of John Singer Sargent's Venice paintings. "It was the chance to travel vicariously a little, pay homage to Sargent, and show the calm and confidence of a happily traveling friend."
About the Artist
Hadley’s subject matter is inspired by her San Francisco surroundings, particularly the city at night. Her glowing depictions of light sources are reminiscent of a blurred photograph or a bleary-eyed nighttime stroll. Hadley developed her love for art from her mother, a watercolorist, and continued to pursue her artistic career at a collegiate level and beyond. She now works out of a small studio in San Francisco’s Mission District. Hadley goes into her studio seven days a week with her Boston terrier puppy.

- Fade into You, Oil PaintingBy Malia PettitLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
When asked about the subject of this painting, artist Malia Pettit described her as "bold, striking and intelligent." Malia says the title of the piece is more literal than one might expect. "It's as though the woman who dominates this painting - wearing a power tuxedo no less - has willed herself to life on the canvas, transcending the surface and invading the space of the viewer. She has the power to seduce and command attention wherever she is put on display."About the Artist
Malia Pettit sees her artistic process as an act of “liberating the paint” and “allowing for the unexpected to occur.” Her portraits of women stem from a fascination with glossy magazines and their portrayal of models, actors and celebrities. Her work has been especially influenced by Chantal Joffe...Category21st Century and Contemporary Pop Art Figurative Paintings
