About the Item

Primavera en jardín ( Spring in garden). Oil on canvas by Spanish artist Joan Raset. Dimension with frame 104 cm H x 121 cm W x 4,5 cm D Dimension without frame 73 cm H x 92 cm W x 2 cm D Moment of feminity, naturalness, sensuality, beauty with the help of a coloristic palette. Spanish artist Joan Raset was born in 1938 in Barcelona. Raset was trained, and worked in technical architecture, but abandoned it in the 1970s for fine art. He started attending the Cercle Artistic de Sant Lluc and later the Cercle Real in Barcelona. He was initially attracted to abstract painting, and also created signs for discothèques and nightclubs in trendy cities along the costa. But he also spent time on pastel portraiture and more figurative work, to which he attributes his eventual artistic development.  Already his pastel work was distinctive and it resulted in a publishing contract with Editorial Parragón. El Desnudo femenino al Pastel (The female Nude in Pastel) was one of his most popular works. At the end of the 1980s Raset launched into oil paintings, practically with the same concept and graphics as his pastel paintings. In 1992 he met Sam Benady,  art dealer and gallery owner, at the Miami Art Fair Art-Miami, and they began a business relationship and good friendship. Until the end of his live, in 2017, Raset used to paint in his garden, and home studio, next to the Mediterranean in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Girona.

  • Flight II. Amy Johnson. Surrealistic portrait of pioneering British aviator
    By Tom Adams
    Located in Segovia, ES
Amy Johnson CBE: Ordre de l'Empire britannique (1903-1941) was one of the most influential and inspirational woman of the twentieth century. She was the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia in 1930 and set a string of other records throughout her career. Even The Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie, had been sufficiently impressed by Amy's achievement in flying solo to Australia. Althought Christie didn't name her directly, it was clearly Amy that her character was referring to in the novel « Peril at End House ». The book features Christie's famous character Hercule Poirot. In this painting Tom Adams use the technique of collage. Dimension with frame 89 cm H x 102 cm W x 7 cm D Dimension without frame 64 cm H x 87 cm W About the artist: Thomas Barclay Adams was born in Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A. to a family of distinguished architects and planners. He was trained at the Chelsea School of Art and Goldsmith's College between 1946-1950. In 1949 he received a National Diploma of Painting. Between 1953-60 Adams illustrated natural and Regimental history pages for Eagle and natural history features for Eagle, Girl and Swift. In 1958 he founded Adams Design Associates with Anna and Andy Garnett, where he produced large murals in the then-new medium of laminated plastic for various firms such as The Royal Bank of Scotland, Chartered Bank, Aspro Nicholas and Airscrew Jiewood. In 1960 Adams Design Associates became DANAD Designs with a group of architects and designers. In 1965 Adams joined his father, the late James W.R. Adams OBE, eminent town planner and landscape architect, who was planning and design consultant to the Poster Advertising Planning Committee, for whom he helped produce a book: "Posters Look to the Future". He mounted an exhibition at the Tea Center in Regent Street opened by Sir Hugh Casson in 1966. During this period, Adams met Virgil Pomfret and joined his artists' agency. Apart from a few gaps when pursuing other activities (like running art galleries), Adams has been with Pomfret ever since. With Virgil's representation, Adams began a career as a book cover illustrator, most notably for the early John Fowles' novels The Collector, The Magus and The French Lieutenant's Woman (Cape) and the now famous paperpack covers for Agatha Christie (Collins UK and Simon & Schuster USA). This period covered 1963-1975. A book on these cover paintings, with commentary by Julian Symons and an introduction by John Fowles was published in 1981 by Dragons World. Adams has won various awards for illustration, notably the American Society of Illustrators, The American Art Directors Association, and The Design and Art Directors Association, UK. In 1967 Adams opened the Fulham Gallery, which not only gave first exhibitions of some now famous artists, but was for several years the center of the late '60's phenomenon - the poetry print. With C.Day-Lewis (the Poet Laureate) and artist Joseph Herman and John Piper, Adams produced the investiture print for the Prince of Wales. Adams also designed posters for Mark Boyle's light shows (The Sensual Laboratory), going on tour with The Jimmy Hendrix Experience and The Soft Machine. His connection with the modern world of rock music continued when he met Lou Reed, an admirer of his Christie and Raymond Chandler covers. Reed asked Adams to design the cover for his first UK solo album. As a result of this friendship with Lou Reed, Andy Warhol offered to sponsor an exhibition of Tom's work in New York. Adams did eventually work in the States in the early 70's where he was asked by Marshall Arisman to teach at the New York Central School of Art. Around this time, having completed a private commission to paint a portrait of Benjamin Britten...

The smokers. Figurative painting. Colorful Landscape with figures. Acrylic on canvas. Measurements in centimeters: 89 x 146 x 3 cm. / Framed: 114 x 171 x 5 cm. In inches: 35.04 x 57.48 x 1.18 ". / Framed: 44.88 x 67.32 x 1.9 " In the background, a beautiful city with classical buildings and a a forest; in the foreground, a small park where smokers gather next to the fountain crowned by a cupid holding a cigarette between his fingers. It is a group of six men and three women. They all smoke. They enjoy the smoke as they blow it out of their mouths, making shapes with it and interacting with each other in various poses. Hands emerge from the trees of the nearby forest holding lighted matches between their fingers as a lure to attract smokers to the darkness of the forest. A very dreamlike image to represent the temptation of the forbidden. ABOUT THE ARTIST Fomin is a storytelling artist. He is a storyteller in his everyday, anecdotally narrating the funny side of life, and he is a storyteller in his professional life, bringing to the canvas realistic popular scenes set in fairy-tale settings where the subject matter is always treated with irony and humor. The titles of his paintings tell us about eccentric characters of an era, a culture, a society (which one?) - it doesn't matter, it is a distorted reality with a romantic and sentimental touch, which takes us to references such as Brueghel the Elder, El Bosco and Chagall, within an aesthetic and chromatism typical of Renaissance painting where Fomin develops his original scenes playing with the design of spaces, landscapes, buildings, characters and costumes. A stage director who makes us smile, but also reflect on his original interpretation of the human being, because this is the main protagonist of his paintings. ABOUT THE ARTIST Igor Fomin...

Kostacis with his hummingbirds. Figurative popular scene in Renaissance atmosphere. Acrylic on canvas. Dimensions in centimeters 81 x 100 x 2 cm. Framed 105 x 124 x 5 cm. Dimensions In inches: 31.89 x 39.37 x 0.79 " . Framed 41.34 x 48.82 x 1.97 " Kostacis with his hummingbirds. Figurative Popular scene in Renaissance atmosphere. Acrylic on canvas. Outside scene where a group of people seem to experience extraordinary sensations surrounded by hummingbirds. In an urban environment with a Renaissance flair, the characters, dressed in original clothes of plural inspiration, seem to react ecstatically by the effects of the hummingbirds, which Kostacis seems to have under control with his wealthy and wise aura. The studied composition, the chromatic harmony, and the subtlety of the design of all the elements that make up the scene, give this painting a classic beauty. The author adds to all this his own brushstrokes of fine humor that wrap the whole theme in a casual irony, the same which surrounds all the stories that Igor Fomin...

  • La lecture au jardin (Lesson in the Garden)
    By Georges d'Espagnat
    Located in New Orleans, LA
French Post-Impressionist painter Georges d’Espagnat captures a charming moment between a mother and her child in this vibrant oil on canvas. Rendered with a studied use of complementary colors and bold brushstrokes, the painting showcases the artist's unique Post-Impressionist style. Remembered as one of the most individualistic artists of the 20th century, his distinctive canvases bring together the loose brushwork of the Impressionists and the bold color palette favored by the Fauves. Together, they achieve a vibrant spontaneity that lends itself well to the carefree subjects of the present work. Masterfully composed, La lecture au jardin moves beyond the Impressionist instinct to capture a fleeting moment on canvas. Rather, d'Espagnat succeeds in creating a deep feeling of harmony in the work. Warm colors are perfectly balanced with cool tones, while vertical and horizontal lines are softened by the curves of the foliage and his subjects' figures. Through his simplification of forms and intentional use of color and line, he creates a scene that is carefully designed and thoroughly modern. A similar view of a mother and her child by d'Espagnat is currently in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York). The Post-Impressionist painter was an individualist since his youth, choosing to forgo traditional schooling in order to independently study the Old Masters in the Louvre. He soon became involved with the most prominent Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters of the age, including Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Paul Signac, who themselves existed outside the traditional norms of French Academic training. In 1891, he exhibited at the Salon des Refusés, and again the following year at the Salon des Indépendants. By 1895, he held his first one-man show in Paris, and just three years later his success earned him a solo show at the prestigious Durand-Ruel Gallery. Between 1905 and 1910 he made several trips to visit Renoir on the Côte d’Azur. Their close friendship resulted in a group exhibition at Marcel Bernheim...
