About the Item
Shatalin was one of the most influential painters from Kiev, Ukraine from the last 50 years. He was a member of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and a corresponding member of the Academy of Art of the USSR. He was also named as a Peoples' Artist of Ukraine. He was an influential professor at the Kiev Art Academy for decades and had many important shows as well as was featured in many important publications.
"Etude" was most likely a fragmentary study for a larger genre work. It was purchased in Kiev from the artist's daughter at Shatalin's studio. As the painting was not signed, the daughter attributed the painting to her late father on both the front and back of the painting.
The painting is currently not framed.
