This is a typical and charming late 19th Century French impressionist oil painting of a woman reading on the bank of a river. This lively landscape interpretation has been deftly applied on a canvas board by the artist using a small couteau and brushes. Some areas of elevation created with impasto thickened oils and dashes of paint give this painting animation. The light travels in from the bottom right to contrast with the dark hues of the thick riverbank vegetation.
