Olio su tela. Firmato in basso a sinistra. Al retro è presente etichetta della Galleria Annunciata di Milano, con il titolo e la data dell' opera.
Fiorenzo Tomea realizzò, soprattutto negli anni '50, una vasta produzione di fiori, in vaso o da soli: tale soggetto fu negli stessi anni un tema tradizionale della pittura di De Pisis e di Mafai, e voleva proporre una riflessione sulla vanitas, ossia sulla fugacità della vita.
I fiori secchi, scarni, isolati l'un l'altro, sospesi in un'atmosfera livida, quasi surreale, veicolano un senso di disfatta e di straniamento.
L'opera è presentata in cornice in stile.
