About the Item

Throughout her career, Geesaman photographed public parks and formal gardens in the United States and Europe, focusing on the intersection of nature and artifice in the cultivated landscape. Combining geometry and abstraction with ethereal light and painterly color, Geesaman created a tension between the highly structured landscapes and their illusory, or otherworldly, nature. Working in both black and white and color, Geesaman's uniquely rendered images predate digital manipulation, and are the result of a devoted practice of analog and photographic darkroom techniques.
