Eliane Larus
Abstract Expressionist, Art Brut Lithograph, 'A Day Out'.

About the Item

Abstract Expressionist lithograph on BFK Rives paper of a late 20th century work by French artist Eliane Larus. A lively and highly colourful lithograph of a bustling scene of a day out in the country. The images are flattened and lack perspective, very much in line with the traits of 'art brut'. Here unfolds a joyous scene of people out walking the dog on a bright windy day. The characters are reminiscent of a Lowry scene, thinly outlined giving a matchstick quality to the bodies. The faces however all seem to look out towards the viewer and invite you in to the scene. Finally, the rainbow of colours reign and create a joyous, bright atmosphere. (There is another lithograph to the reverse (see photo). Eliane Larus was born on April 24, 1944 in Le Pin. In 1963, she enrolled in the 'Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts' in Tours, from which she graduated in 1967. She continued her studies at the 'Ecole des Beaux-Arts' in Paris, in the studio of the painter Gustave Singier until 1969. From 1968 to 1978, alongside her personal work, she gave drawing lessons in schools in the City of Paris. In 1974, she discovered works from the Art Brut collection presented by Jean Dubuffet, which led her to question the traditional teaching she received at the School of Fine Arts. Eliane Larus lives in Paris. Her works, paintings, sculptures, are present in numerous private and public collections, notably in the Neuve Invention Collection in Lausanne.
