About the Item

"Galerie Maeght Miro" is an original color lithograph poster with art by Joan Miro. It was printed by Maeght Editeur Imprimeur in 1970. The poster showcases abstract biomorphic marks in multiple colors. 24 5/8" x 17" art 35 1/2" x 28" framed Joan Miró i Ferrà (1893 – 1983) was a Catalan Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist born in Barcelona. In numerous interviews dating from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for conventional painting methods as a way of supporting bourgeois society, and famously declared an "assassination of painting" in favor of upsetting the visual elements of established painting. A museum dedicated to his work, the Fundació Joan Miró, was established in his native city in 1975. Miro earned international acclaim for his work that many have likened to Surrealism because of his fascination with the subconscious and childlike mind. Miro studied drawing from the age of seven and later entered the Cercle Artistic de Sant Lluc. Miro's art for this poster is reminiscent of his abstract surrealist drawings and paintings.
