About Donald Baechler:
*1956 in Hartford, Connecticut (USA).
Studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt.
1980 Moved to New York City, where he became known as a member of the East Village art scene and representative of the neo-expressive movement for his collage-like painting drawings.
Donald Baechler's works are reminiscent of Jean Dubuffet's Ready Made style, in the sense that Baechler's creative process is located in a collection of popular images and objects as a form of archiving.
Built up as fragments and layers, compact versions of reality emerge, which Baechler calls the "illusion of history".
Represented among others in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Center George Pompidou, Paris.

Donald Baechler
Donald Baechler was an American painter and sculptor associated with 1980's Neo-expressionism. He lived in New York City. Baechler's source material drew broadly from classical art history, the New York School, contemporary art, folk art, outsider art, pop culture and childhood. Baechler has said that 'I hold onto absolutely everything I would guess out of every thousand images I save, I probably use one or two - It's necessary to accumulate all of these things to get to the point of what's important". He showed at Sperone Westwater, Cheim Read, Kunstalle in Basel, Switzerland, Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris, Museum der Moderne in Salzburg. His work has been collected by Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Museum of contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.

Published by Chicago Serigraphic Workshop and Artco, Incorporated Ed Paschke Biography: Ed Paschke was born in Chicago where he spent most of his life as an important painter. He was initially associated in the late 1960s with the second generation of Chicago Imagists who called themselves The Hairy Who. He received his B.F.A. from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 1961 and his M.F.A. in 1970. Between degrees he lived for a time in New York where he easily came under the influence of Pop art, in part, because of his interests as a child in animation and cartoons. His fascination with the print media of popular culture led to a portrait-based art of cultural icons. Paschke used the celebrity figure, real or imagined, as a vehicle for explorations of personal and public identity with social and political implications. Although his style is representational, with a loose affiliation to Photorealism, Paschke’s art plays...Category
