Donald Baechler
Donald Baechler - "Flower" - unique piece - edition: 35/98

1994

About the Item

Donald Baechler - "Flower". Color screen printing and collage. Signed and Numbered. Unique edition 35/98 About Donald Baechler: *1956 in Hartford, Connecticut (USA). Studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. 1980 Moved to New York City, where he became known as a member of the East Village art scene and representative of the neo-expressive movement for his collage-like painting drawings. Donald Baechler's works are reminiscent of Jean Dubuffet's Ready Made style, in the sense that Baechler's creative process is located in a collection of popular images and objects as a form of archiving. Built up as fragments and layers, compact versions of reality emerge, which Baechler calls the "illusion of history". Represented among others in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Center George Pompidou, Paris.

Published by Chicago Serigraphic Workshop and Artco, Incorporated Ed Paschke Biography: Ed Paschke was born in Chicago where he spent most of his life as an important painter. He was initially associated in the late 1960s with the second generation of Chicago Imagists who called themselves The Hairy Who. He received his B.F.A. from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 1961 and his M.F.A. in 1970. Between degrees he lived for a time in New York where he easily came under the influence of Pop art, in part, because of his interests as a child in animation and cartoons. His fascination with the print media of popular culture led to a portrait-based art of cultural icons. Paschke used the celebrity figure, real or imagined, as a vehicle for explorations of personal and public identity with social and political implications. Although his style is representational, with a loose affiliation to Photorealism, Paschke’s art plays...
