Artist: Etienne Ret (French, 1900-1996) Title: La pianiste (Epuise) Year : Circa 1970 Medium: Color etching with aquatint Image (plate mark) size: 19 x 15.5 inches Framed size: 27.75 x 23.75 inches Signature: Signed and titled in pencil by the artist Edition: Numbered 66/150 in pencil Condition: The artwork is in excellent condition, the frame is in good condition. Frame: Custom framed in a wooden silver frame. About the artist. Painter. Born in Bourbonnais, France on Jan. 6, 1900, Etienne Ret graduated from the College of Mesnieres and completed military service in 1924. He then began formal art training in Paris in the ateliers of Maurice Denis and Georges Desvallieres, and at Ecole des Beaux Arts and Ecole des Arts Décoratifs. His book of poetry, Blindmans Bluff, was a prize winner in 1929. Ret exhibited in London and Paris before settling in Hollywood in 1934. He taught at the Chouinard Art Institute and was active in Los Angeles through the late 1950s. He died in France on June 21, 1996. Member: California Watercolor Society. Exhibition: De Young Museum, 1943 Collections: San Diego Museum; De Young Museum; Pasadena Art Institute; Santa Barbara Museum.
