Jacques Callot was a prolific 17thC artist print maker. He produced hundreds of well known detailed etchings, depicting daily life, such as executions, war, festivals, court life portraying soldiers, clowns, drunkards, gypsies, beggars etc. and he is well known to set his scenes into detailed landscapes featuring in the background.
The sheet here on offer is a later (prob. 18thC), mirrored version of the famous image published in the 17thC. However, still an antique print and in fine condition; it will be the privilege of the future owner, to choose how this antique print is to be presented in the future.

However, most of my stock I deliver worldwide for free– so no extra costs on top of the sale price for those items. I do decline to accept responsibility for any declaration made to the customs authority concerning import and export. These include age, value and provenience and so on as well as the taxes concerning these. Meaning, you the buyer cover all incurring import costs, duties and taxes on your end. I pack the goods myself and very carefully. Where it makes sense, for environmental reasons I will use recycled packing materials. I ship using the Swiss Postal Priority Service and all shipments are fully insured.

Jacques Callot
Jacques Callot, at the age of 12 years old, he runs away in Italy with gypsies. Callot returned for the third time to Italy together with an embassy of Duke Henry II to the Holy See. In 1611, Callot entered the workshop of Tempesta, a famous Italian engraver, for three years. In 1614 Callot left Rome for Florence in the service of Cosimo II de Medici. Callot produced drawings and etchings that drew influence from Flemish art and Mannerist works in Roman churches. Callot’s career began in Florence in 1612 when he started work in the Medici court, where he was employed to make pictorial records of entertainments such as fairs and festivals and where he also drew and etched courtiers, beggars and other characters, excelling particularly at caricatures. Returning to his native France in the latter end of his career, Callot’s work became markedly soberer as he documented the horrors of the 30 years of war in his Miseries of War series, which would continue to influence the artistic representation of conflict social injustice into the 19th and 20th Centuries.
