Pablo Picasso

About the Item

This piece was among thousands of works inherited by Marina Picasso, the artist’s granddaughter, after his death. Marina has been instrumental in preserving Picasso’s legacy, placing numerous works in museums, auctioning some works to benefit charities, and carefully sanctioning lithographic runs of a select number of prints and paintings, working directly with master printers and Picasso’s former chromist. These are Picasso-Estate-handled, limited edition prints, and since their creation between 1979 and 1982, have become an sought-after in their own right. The edition number in this case refers to “A.P.,” or artist’s proof. For most editioned artist’s prints, a small number of perfect examples are set aside for the artist or their estate, while the main edition may enter the market right away. In this case the larger edition is 500 prints, and there are just 34 Artist’s Proofs, of which this is number 11.
