About the Item
The full title really should be ...And So I Give Your The Next President of the United States. The scene is the Republican Convention, in Philadelphia, in 1948. There are so many fascinating things here: A packed scene with doves, state signs, and cameras -- the first appearance of TV cameras at a presidential convention, and the strong favorite to win, Thomas E. Dewey, who went on to a surprising loss to Harry Truman.
Dewey had served as a Governor of New York and was know for his strong crime-fighting successes.
Of course, it is great that the convention was at Bendiner's doorstep. He must have been in heaven! It is authenticated and titled by the artist's wife, Betty Bendiner, in pencil, also titled on the reverse. It is from an edition of 15, and the reference is McNulty 70.
