Classic 20th Century work by Graphic artist Ivan Luz of Mikhail Baryshnikov at the height of his performance career in the late 1970’s. The piece is number 25 in a limited series of 100 and is personally and boldly signed by Mikhail Baryshnikov. An excellent example of the popular contemporary graphic and poster style of the 1970s. Measures 21.375 inches wide x 26 inches tall x .75 inches deep. It is framed in its original blue metal frame and is ready for hanging. The work is in excellent condition with no color fading. The frame has a few minor scratches that do not detract from the quality of the work or presentation. This is a very fine limited edition serigraph. A serigraph is a type of printmaking process that involves pushing ink through a mesh stencil onto paper or another surface. Each color in the image requires a separate stencil, resulting in a unique, layered print. Serigraphs are often used in fine art and textile design. George Platt Lynes (1907–1955), was a gregarious American portrait, dance, fashion, and male nude photographer whose career spanned the late 1920s through the early 1950s. From age eighteen, Lynes entered the cosmopolitan world of the American expatriate community in Paris when he became acquainted with the salon of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. He began photographing authors like Stein, Jean Cocteau, André Gide, and Colette and soon established himself as one of the premier fashion photographers in the Condé Nast stable, documenting the ballet companies of George Balanchine/Lincoln Kirstein, and pursuing a private obsession with seductive images of young male nudes rarely published in his lifetime. Orpheus represents a major 20th Century artistic collaboration between composer Igor Stravinsky, choreographer George Ballanchine, and artist/designer Isamu Naguchi. Orpheus is a thirty-minute neoclassical ballet composed by Igor Stravinsky in collaboration with choreographer George Balanchine in Hollywood, California in 1947. The work was commissioned by Ballet Society, later renamed New York City Ballet, which Balanchine founded with Lincoln Kirstein. Sets and costumes were created by Isamu Noguchi. Noguchi’s lyre harp from the production became the symbol of the New York City Ballet. Francisco Moncion (July 6, 1918 – April 1, 1995) was a charter member of the New York City Ballet. Rubbing in the lower left image area obscuring the publishing information (which reads Published by Mm. Darchery, St. James Street March 11, 1783), scattered light foxing, corner loss, top left corner, well outside of image area. "SMP" collector's stamp in red ink on the verso (not in Lugt), and the name "Renier" and the initials "AR" in black ink on the verso. Colors are extremely fresh. Lithograph with hand tinting on heavy wove paper, full margins. Significant condition issues in the margins which include adhesive residue, edge tears and minor edge losses. The image area is clean with minor mat tone, however, colors are slightly attenuated. The verso shows moderate uneven toning. Issues primarily exist outside of the image area.
